Really loving Ravello

Another town that is a must-see in the Amalfi Coast is Ravello. It sits about 365 metres above the town of Amalfi. It produces spectacular views of the Tyrrhenian Sea and the town of Maiori below.

Many may know about the renowned Ravello Music Festival in the summer where outdoor concerts are held. However, even in October, there are concerts such as Bach happening.

Our walk from the villa took about 40 minutes but once you walk into Piazza Vescovado, you are rewarded with restaurants and coffee shops to help you relax from the walk with a cappuccino and a croissant while people watching.

In the morning hours, the tourists have not all arrived so it is a pleasant walk meandering the streets.

There are many ceramic, wine and clothing shops for the shopaholic. One of the best attraction though is Villa Rufolo. Built in the 13th century, the villa was bought in 1851 by a Scottish botanist named Nevile Reid who did extensive renovations.

The Garden of Souls is magnificent. Flowers, giant umbrella pines juxtaposed against the sea and blue sky make for a photo op like no other.

In fact, on many of the ceramics, you see the iconic umbrella pines above the Church of the Annunziata below.

Climbing the Torre Maggiore tower also affords a nice view of the towns below and the brilliant azure sea.

A peculiar sight of a purple person in a fetal position in the garden’s pond incites the obvious WTF moment.

The soul of the garden?

Ciao!
